What is Ponds For Kids?
Ponds For Kids is a cooperative project, partnering schools and other kid-friendly organizations with local contractors in the construction of a self-sustaining pond ecosystem. Kids, teachers, school administrators, and parents can all get in on the fun from the planning phase right through construction day. Ponds for Kids brings an incredible, hands-on nature experience right into the lives of our kids where they can observe a complete ecosystem everyday!
Why Ponds For Kids?
By the time kids graduate from high school, they have spent almost 2500 days in the classroom. Now, imagine a portion of those days being spent near a beautiful pond reading, doing experiments, sketching, recording observations, writing essays, and just plain soaking in the beauty contained in that environment with hands-on experiences in an outdoor classroom that blows the doors off traditional teaching settings. Ponds for Kids brings that world right to your school or other organization with a program dedicated to growing up a new generation of kids with a heart for the environment.
How Does a Ponds For Kids Project Fit With A Learning Environment?
A sustainable, interactive ecosystem is the perfect environment to cut across the disciplines in today’s classroom, only limited by your imagination. Here are just a few examples of the ways Ponds for Kids can enhance your curriculum or programming:
  • Science- microscopic world to ecosystem function
  • Language Arts— reading and writing as interpreted through the setting
  • Social Studies— human impact on the environment
  • Art- expressing the natural environment in variety of media
  • Math— quantifying data
So … What about the kids?
Most kids just love getting their hands dirty, taking part in creating something, or just doing something different! The Ponds for Kids experience will offer them a little bit of everything! They can take part in designing and planning for the pond, working with tools, placing rocks and gravel, installing filtration and planting aquatic plants. The opportunities for learning experiences are endless. More importantly … they will have a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day which is priceless!
How does Ponds for Kids Work?
If your school is interested in doing Ponds For Kids, please contact Serenity Waterscapes for more details and to set up an introductory meeting.

Imagine growing up a whole new generation of kids with a heart for the environment by creating an interactive habitat filled with the potential to change young lives—a pond constructed right in the schoolyard. Research shows that kids who have positive interactions with nature grow into adults who really care about their environment. Ponds For Kids is sponsored by the North American Water Garden Society (NAWGS), a non-profit organization of pond lovers dedicated to the enjoyment, education, promotion and protection of the water garden hobby.
