In the 21st century, new technologies and understandings have made the hobby of water gardening all but maintenance free. This means it’s much more affordable, and it allows you and your family and friends to kick back and relax to the sounds and smells of Mother Nature herself instead of cutting back algae, testing for pH, or doing water changes.

I'm on keeping my fish in my pond over the winter, what do I need to know?
if not running pond
  1. Air Stones or Bubbler (bubbles break the surface)
  2. Surface Heater/De-icer for gas exchange (only if not running pond, or using air stones)
  3. Pond Depth of 18-24"+
NOTE! If running pond (you can't run a pondless), watch for ice dams in stream and at bottom of waterfalls.
Any tips for summer?
Here are 5 tips for the summer...
  1. Plant coverage 40-60% of pond
  2. Predator control
  3. Pond Thermometer: water temps above 80F can overheat your fish. Plant coverage, and aeration are key in hot weather
  4. Overhead shade helps
  5. Ponds at least 2 feet deep for cooler water areas for fish
